IN THE LEAST surprising transfer news of the summer, Lionel Messi has committed his future to Barcelona.
The Argentinian star, who first joined the club in 2000 as a 13-year old, has agreed a contract extension that will keep him at Barcelona until 2021.
There had been some speculation earlier this year that Messi, who made his first team debut in a friendly against Porto at the age of 16, could leave the Catalan giants, but that has been put to bed today by the club.
The 30-year old will sign the contract extension when he returns to Barcelona for pre-season training later this month.
In his time at the club, Messi has won eight La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, five Copa Del Reys and three World Club Cups.
He has also found the back of the net 507 times in 583 matches and is both the club and La Liga’s record goal-scorer.
